Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to SMS my name first to register?
This ensures that we know your phone number is valid and it belongs to you. If we let people enter a phone number on the web page first, messages could be sent (by accident or intent) to the wrong phone.
By registering with Flashtxt am I going to be billed for any services?
No. Quite rightly there is some concern about some unscrupulous companies charging phone users accounts for "premium rate" services they did not request. You will never be charged for any services by Flashtxt.
I haven't received any offers. Why not?
Offers are made by companies all the time but there are a few reasons why you may not get any messages. This might be because there are only a few businesses who are nearby, or the preferences you have set are not matched by the offers being made.
We are of course dependant on these businesses for the type of offers that will be made and it is also entirely in their hands as to when they make offers.
It is also worth noting that at the moment we still have only a limited number of businesses on the Flashtxt service as it was only launched a short time ago. We are working hard to get more businesses on-board, with more variety and a wider geographic spread so you will begin to see more offers over time.
I am getting offers from too far away. What can I do?
It is best to reduce the distance in your preferences to reduce the chance of getting offers from businesses you can't access. Within the metropolitan areas a distance of say 5km might be best. This will reduce unwanted offers even if in the short term there may be fewer businesses close by.
How are distances calculated?
When we calculate the allowable travel distance it is measured between postcode centroids using their coordinates. As a result the direct distance from the centre of your postcode area to the centre of a nearby business's postcode area may be more, or less, than what you might expect by road.
